Who helps me get dressed on my wedding day?
It sounds like such a simple question.
You've spent months, sometimes years, choosing your wedding dress. You've had fittings. You've chosen your veil, shoes, jewellery and accessories. You've probably had your hair and makeup trial and created a carefully planned wedding morning schedule.
Then someone asks:
“So, who is actually going to get you into your dress?”
And suddenly you realise you haven't thought about it.
Your mum? Your bridesmaids? Your maid of honour? Your wedding planner? Your photographer?
Maybe.
But what happens when your wedding dress has a corset back, 100 tiny buttons, several layers of tulle, a cathedral-length train or a complicated fastening that nobody has ever used before?
And what happens when the dress needs steaming that morning, your photographer has arrived, hair and makeup are running slightly behind, your bridesmaids are getting dressed themselves and everyone is emotional?
This is where a professional bridal dresser can make a remarkable difference.
At SILVER+SILVER Bridal Dresser, I come to your hotel, venue or private residence to help prepare your wedding wardrobe and get you dressed properly, calmly and professionally.
Because getting into your wedding dress isn't a small part of the morning.
It is one of the moments everything has been building towards.
Your bridesmaids will probably be beside you when you get dressed.
They'll be laughing, crying, taking photographs, fixing each other's hair, checking the champagne and trying to remember where everyone left their phones.
It's part of the magic of the wedding morning.
But there is a difference between having your bridesmaids with you and expecting them to be responsible for dressing you.
A wedding dress can be surprisingly technical.
Some gowns are straightforward. Others aren't.
You might have:
Your bridesmaids may never have dressed someone in a gown like yours before.
And honestly, why should they have to?
They should be able to enjoy the moment with you.
A professional bridal dresser knows how to handle the garment while your closest friends and family can concentrate on being part of your wedding morning.
A bridal dresser is the person responsible for helping you prepare for and get into your wedding outfit.
But the job is much more than simply pulling a dress over your head.
I look at the whole picture.
Where is the dress?
Does it need steaming?
Where is the best place to prepare it?
Is there enough space in the room?
Where is the window?
Where is the dress going to hang?
Are the veil and accessories ready?
What time does the photographer arrive?
When do you need to be dressed?
When do you need to leave the room?
And how does the dress need to look for those first photographs?
These details matter.
My role is to make the dressing part of the morning feel calm rather than rushed.
This is one of the biggest misunderstandings I come across.
Many brides think their dress has to be steamed the day before.
It doesn't necessarily.
If I'm there on the wedding morning, I can professionally prepare and steam the gown on site before you get dressed, provided there is a suitable space.
That might be a spare bedroom, a dressing room, part of a large bridal suite or another suitable area near a window.
I bring my own equipment and dress stand.
The aim is to have the gown looking fresh and ready before it goes onto you.
This can be particularly helpful for brides staying in hotels.
Your dress may have travelled from the bridal boutique to your home, from your home to the hotel or even from another country.
It may have been packed carefully, but fabric still moves.
Tulle can crease.
Satin can mark.
Layers can become compressed.
Veils can need attention too.
Professional on-site steaming means the dress can be prepared where you're actually getting married rather than relying on it being perfectly pressed days before.
SILVER+SILVER currently offers on-site bridal dressing and wedding dress steaming across London and the UK, with destination wedding support also available.
Once the gown is ready, it's time to get dressed.
This is often the point where the room changes.
Hair and makeup are finished.
Your photographer is ready.
Your mum might be crying.
Your bridesmaids are suddenly very quiet.
And you step into your wedding dress.
This is where having experienced hands can make a huge difference.
I help you into the gown, paying attention to how it sits, how it fastens and how the different layers fall.
If it's a corset, I know how to work through it carefully.
If it's buttons, I work through them properly rather than rushing.
If there is a zip, I make sure the fabric isn't caught.
If there are layers underneath, I make sure they sit correctly.
If the dress has a train, I arrange it so it falls properly.
And then I check you.
Not just the dress.
You.
Are you comfortable?
Can you move?
Is anything pulling?
Does the neckline sit correctly?
Is the train positioned properly?
Does the veil need adjusting?
Are your earrings sitting correctly?
Is your necklace in the right place?
These small details become very visible once the photographer starts shooting.
One of the reasons I love working alongside photographers is that we are all trying to achieve the same thing.
You looking incredible.
The photographer shouldn't have to stop every five minutes because the train is twisted, the veil has caught underneath the dress or the buttons haven't been finished.
I'm often working quietly alongside the photographer.
I'll arrange your train.
I'll check the back of the gown.
I'll move fabric.
I'll make sure the veil is sitting properly.
I'll help you position the dress for photographs.
Sometimes it's a tiny adjustment.
Sometimes it's a complete reset.
Either way, I'm watching the dress so the photographer can concentrate on capturing you.
Your photographer doesn't need to become your dresser.
Your bridesmaids don't need to become your dress technicians.
Your mum doesn't need to remember how the corset works.
That's my job.
The veil deserves its own conversation.
A veil can completely change the way you look.
It can also completely change the logistics of getting dressed.
Where does it attach?
Is it going under the hairstyle or over it?
Does it need a comb?
Are there pins?
Is it cathedral length?
Does it need to be arranged for photographs?
Will you be wearing it through the ceremony?
Does it need to be removed afterwards?
A professional dresser can take care of these details while you remain focused on the moment.
And if you're wearing a long veil, someone needs to know how to manage it.
Especially when you start walking.
Especially when you're moving between rooms.
Especially when you're having photographs.
This is where bridal dressing can become much more valuable than brides initially realise.
Your wedding wardrobe may include far more than one dress.
You may have a ceremony gown.
An overskirt.
A cape.
A second dress.
A reception look.
A traditional outfit.
A late-night party outfit.
A veil change.
Different jewellery.
Different shoes.
Perhaps even several completely different looks across the wedding day.
And this is becoming increasingly common.
I've worked with brides who have multiple outfits and brides who have weddings taking place over several days.
For international weddings, particularly, the wardrobe can become a project in itself.
Garments may be travelling internationally.
Some outfits may arrive shortly before the wedding.
There may be several ceremonies, receptions or celebrations.
Suddenly, the question isn't simply:
“Who is helping me into my dress?”
It's:
“Who is looking after my wedding wardrobe?”
That's a very different question.
This is real life.
Wedding mornings don't always run perfectly.
Hair and makeup can take longer.
A bridesmaid might be delayed.
A family member can't find something.
The photographer arrives early.
Someone needs a safety pin.
Your dress needs more steaming than expected.
And suddenly the carefully planned timeline is under pressure.
This is where having someone responsible for the wardrobe can take one problem away from everyone else.
I can focus on the clothing.
You can focus on getting married.
Your photographer can focus on photographs.
Your hair and makeup team can focus on finishing their work.
Your wedding planner can focus on the wider timeline.
Everyone has a role.
Mine is your wardrobe.
There isn't one rule.
Every wedding is different.
Some brides get dressed with their mum.
Some with their bridesmaids.
Some with a maid of honour.
Some have their wedding planner nearby.
And some choose to have a professional bridal dresser.
For a simple dress and a relaxed wedding morning, family or friends may be perfectly comfortable helping.
But if your gown is complicated, expensive, delicate, heavy or particularly structured, professional assistance can be a very sensible decision.
It can also be helpful if you are getting married in a luxury hotel and want your wedding morning to feel calm and professionally organised.
SILVER+SILVER works directly in hotels, venues and private residences, supporting brides with dressing, gown preparation, steaming, veil placement and final presentation.
This is one of my favourite environments to work in.
London hotel weddings often have beautiful bridal suites, but beautiful doesn't always mean practical.
A suite might have a huge bed, sofas, mirrors, flowers, luggage, makeup stations, photographers, videographers and several people moving around.
Where does the dress go?
Where can it be steamed?
Where can I safely hang it?
Where can I work without getting in everyone's way?
I look at the room when I arrive and work out the best setup.
I bring my own dress stand.
I look for a suitable working area.
If I'm steaming, I consider ventilation and the position of the fire alarm.
Then I prepare the dress away from the main activity where possible.
The goal isn't to take over your bridal suite.
It's to work quietly within it.
This is another situation where professional support can be incredibly useful.
I regularly work with brides who are travelling to London for their wedding.
They may be staying in a hotel for only a short time before the wedding.
Their dress may have travelled internationally.
They may have multiple garments.
They may be unfamiliar with the venue.
Their wedding morning may involve a tight schedule.
Sometimes the dress doesn't arrive until late.
Sometimes the bride checks into the hotel late at night.
Sometimes there simply isn't enough time for a traditional “steam it the day before” approach.
That's where on-site wedding morning support can be a lifesaver.
I can arrive at the hotel, assess the wardrobe, prepare the garments and work around the actual schedule.
For destination weddings, the same principle applies.
The wedding might be in the UK, France, Italy, Spain or elsewhere in Europe.
The wardrobe still needs someone looking after it.
The groom can need help too.
Morning suits, tuxedos, cravats, ties, pocket squares, buttonholes and watches all need to come together.
I also provide groom dressing and wedding wardrobe support.
Because there is no reason for the bride to have someone looking after her wardrobe while the groom is standing in another room trying to work out how his cravat is supposed to sit.
Wedding mornings work best when everyone knows what they're responsible for.
This is where the role becomes even more important.
Indian weddings, Nigerian weddings and other multi-day celebrations can involve several outfits, ceremonies and changes.
You may have one outfit for the ceremony, another for photographs, another for the reception and completely different looks on the following day.
Some brides change several times.
There may also be family outfits, jewellery changes, veils, dupattas, capes, overskirts and other pieces.
The more complicated the wardrobe becomes, the more useful professional wardrobe support can be.
Instead of trying to remember what goes with what while you're getting ready, someone is responsible for the clothing.
That means your morning can feel much more controlled.
This is something I really want brides to understand.
Booking a bridal dresser doesn't mean you're being excessive.
You don't need a £10,000 gown.
You don't need a celebrity wedding.
You don't need a ballroom at a five-star hotel.
You simply need to want help.
Maybe you're getting married in a small venue.
Maybe your mum is nervous.
Maybe your bridesmaids are all getting ready themselves.
Maybe your dress has 80 buttons.
Maybe you simply don't want your friends worrying about whether your train is sitting correctly.
That's enough.
Luxury isn't always about adding more.
Sometimes it's about removing the things you don't need to worry about.
My job doesn't necessarily stop once you're standing in your gown.
Depending on the service you've booked, I can stay involved in the preparation and photography period.
I can help with your train.
I can assist with your veil.
I can make sure your gown is sitting correctly before you leave.
If you have an outfit change later in the day, I can help with that too.
For brides booking longer wardrobe support, the service can extend across outfit changes and end-of-day garment organisation. SILVER+SILVER offers bespoke wedding wardrobe support for brides who need more than a short dressing appointment.
That means the dress doesn't simply become someone else's problem once you've walked down the aisle.
It remains looked after.
If your mum wants to help, let her.
If your bridesmaids want to help, let them.
Those memories are precious.
But they don't have to be responsible for everything.
You can have your mum in the room holding your hand while I handle the dress.
You can have your bridesmaids watching while I fasten the gown.
Your photographer can capture the emotional moments while I make sure the back of your dress looks perfect.
Your wedding planner can keep an eye on the timeline while I keep an eye on your wardrobe.
Everyone gets to enjoy their role.
And you get to enjoy being the bride.
There is something very special about the hours before a wedding.
The excitement.
The nerves.
The music.
The flowers arriving.
The champagne.
The photographs.
Your mum seeing you in your dress for the first time.
Your bridesmaids getting emotional.
The moment you finally look in the mirror and realise:
I'm actually getting married today.
You shouldn't be standing in the middle of that moment worrying about how to fasten 100 buttons.
You shouldn't be trying to steam your own veil.
You shouldn't be asking your maid of honour to Google how a bustle works.
And you definitely shouldn't be worrying about whether your dress will be ready when the photographer arrives.
That's why bridal dressing exists.
At SILVER+SILVER, I bring experience, garment knowledge and calm hands to your wedding morning.
I work around your team, your venue and your timeline.
I prepare the gown.
I help you into it.
I check the details.
I help with your veil and train.
I work alongside your photographer, hair and makeup team and planner.
And when you finally walk out of that room, my job is to know that your wedding wardrobe is exactly where it needs to be.
You can have someone who knows exactly what they're doing.
A professional bridal dresser.
Someone who understands wedding gowns.
Someone who knows how to handle delicate fabrics, complicated fastenings, corsetry, veils and long trains.
Someone who understands that your wedding morning isn't a normal morning.
And someone who knows that sometimes the most valuable thing you can bring into a bridal suite isn't another pair of hands.
It's calm.
SILVER+SILVER Bridal Dresser provides professional bridal dressing, wedding dress steaming and wedding wardrobe support in London, across the UK and for destination weddings.
Services can be booked for brides who simply need help getting into their gown, through to longer wedding wardrobe support covering steaming, dressing, outfit changes and garment organisation.

You planned the dress.
